Motivation and Problem
Perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells are considered a key technology for the next generation of photovoltaics. They combine high efficiencies of over 30% with more sustainable manufacturing compared to traditional silicon cells. However, despite these promising properties, their long-term stability has not yet been sufficiently researched – a major obstacle to industrial scaling. The current standard lifetime guarantees of 30 to 40 years for silicon modules significantly exceed any lifetime measured to date for tandem cells. This is precisely where the TruStable project comes in.
